First Day of Ministry in Udon Thani

Sawasdeeka! Today was our first official day of ministry! We landed into Udon Thani at about 2 o’clock Thai time (that’s one a.m. American time!) most of us got a good night sleep in Bangkok last night to overcome the jet lag! We started today with a stellar devo in James one, and an “Americanized” Thai breakfast, yum! Thailand is so incredible, there’s lots of traditions that are very different from American culture. Everyone for the most part is very respectful, they always bow and greet you with a smile. There are small decorated structures called “spirit houses” In front of every establishment, they are meant for evil spirits to live in, the Thai people even put drinks and food in the spirit houses to appeal to the spirits. The president is highly revered here. He is on the currency, his photo can be seen frequently amidst the city, there are signs saying “long live their majesties ” and children will even wear photos of the royals around their neck. Prostitution is rampant, as it is legal here, many buildings have red lanterns hanging out front which lets everyone know they have girls for sale. We are currently in a hotel smack in the city of udon Thani, tonight we partnered with a church who’s leader is Pastor Chuck, they offer Thai and English services. We went to a gorgeous park and handed out about 800 copies of gospel books called “the book of hope” to kids, adults, and teens. DVD’s, and Thai bibles (in Thai/English) were also distributed along with cold water. Mostly everyone was very accepting and pleasant. We are definitely regretting not learning more Thai before we came! God held off the rain for us all day! It was soggy when we landed but due to prayer He kept it away so we were successfully able to preform all of our skits and play worship music in the public park! We had a blast! Afterwards we had some extremely spicy noodles by the candle light (the restaurant’s power went out for a while). We look forward to tomorrow as we will be attending church and also helping out a new village church plant! Going door to door, so we absolutely covet your prayers! Pray pray pray! Love you and miss you all!
Sawasdeeka,
